So how do I possibly tell my story in such a short space? I guess I start from the beginning and move quickly and with broad strokes. Clearly I will be leaving a lot out.
I was born on June 5th 1979 and raised in Gilroy, CA. I have a mom and dad and a brother who is 2 years older than me. I have only good memories of growing up.
I grew up going to Gilroy Presbyterian Church. Even though my theology of the "Church" is different than the one handed down to me and "going to church" is not something my children will experience, I can't say that I would have wanted it any different. I can not remember a time when I did not know God and actually feel like he was a real part of my life. That is a good thing. Like many, however, surrendering my life to this God was a different story. This did not happen until January 1st 2001 (a nice good date that makes things easy to remember) and, in all honesty, is in the process of happening.
I graduated from Santa Clara University in June 2001 thinking to myself, "I know that reading the Bible is important, but I don't really know how." This is how I ended up at Western Seminary in San Jose. My experience there was a transformative one and was a major piece of my journey thus far. After almost 5 years I graduated with a Masters of Divinity. During this time I also worked as an intern for Athletes in Action, a substitute high school teacher, a personal trainer, and house flipper. I got married in September 2004 to
Melissa Anderson of Birmingham Alabama. We welcomed into the world Isabella Mackenzye on July 26th 2008. We live in San Francisco and work with an organization called ReImagine. When I say I am on a journey it is not simply metaphorical.
Clearly there is more to be said. But I will leave the rest for my blog and, hopefully, if you are actually reading this, some one on one time where we can conspire to change the world.
