Rabbi on a Journey

Library
This is my library. In here you will find books I have read that have contributed to shaping the way I think and ultimately the person I am. Click on the links and you can read my review on the book and other thoughts and questions I had during my time reading it.
Let me also share my thoughts on the whole book reading issue. God has wired me in a way to where I feel intimately connected with Him in a real way when I am engaging my mind with Him. This might seem weird to you, but it makes sense to me. This is probably the main reason why I have such a passion for reading and studying. I also feel, however, that God has shown me another important reason for such an endeavor; to transform me as an individual and the people with whom I interact. This is one powerful way I am conspiring with the Creator.
I think this also has important implications for the "Church" and God's dreams for His creation.  As I understand it, the Church is a prophetic community (do not read "future-telling).  By means of the things it does and what it says (what it embodies and proclaims), it creates an alternative reality to the dominant one we are invited to live within in this world. Using the words of Jesus, we could call this reality the "kingdom of God."  I fully believe that the story of God, the essence of this existence-altering reality, must be clearly and powerfully communicated if we are to be able to fully embrace it and live into it, allowing it to shape the people we are and the communities we are a part of.  We must do this with our voices (which can be very tricky and potentially dangerous) and, more importantly, we must do this with our lives (which will be very tiresome and potentially dangerous).  The material we allow to enter into our mind and the resultant questions and realities we wrestle with are a central piece of this endeavor.
